Nearing 5,000

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 2, 2008, 9:49 AM
So many pageviews, thank you all so much! I just want to remind you all that whoever gets my 5,000th pageview (or the closest to that ^^) and screen captures it will get a CUSTOM ITEM from me! I would also like to add that this will repeat itself every 5,000 views, so for 10,000, 15,000, etc. (This won't apply to custom orders you've already requested or items that are already done.)

Thank you all so much for all your support! I really appreciate it!

Synthesis and Evolution

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 23, 2008, 4:51 PM
I've had this discussion several times with several people, but I wanted to mention it here, as well.

Is Steampunk as limited as people seem to make it? Watch movements and gears, old bits and pieces, or can it take on a more elegant, high fantasy look? In my work, I take my inspiration from media sources such as Girl Genius, Final Fantasy VI and IX, all three of which have a very definite fantasy feel to them. As I branch out with my work, I'm watching the high fantasy creep into it. When does it become non-steampunk? My pieces aren't pure steam or pure fantasy at any point. Is there room in my work for dieselpunk, atomicpunk, desertpunk, clockpunk, sandalpunk, sailpunk, mannerpunk/manorpunk, etc? And will it still be desireable?

I love the shapes of gears and movements, the look and feel of keys, but I find that even in my very steamy pieces there is a definite fantasy aspect to them. Some feel more Victorian, some more Regency, some feel like they aren't from any of those and that someone might have stolen them off the set of Firefly. I want to be able to share all of my pieces here, but there's a nervous little part of me that says "WELL THAT'S NOT A GEAR SO IT'S NOT STEAMPUNK".

I want to artifice relics. Treasures that people will one day find in their grandmothers' attic and think "This is the coolest thing I have ever seen." Those relics that I make seem to have a feel and era all their own, and I love that about what I make. Steampunk to me is not about gluing gears to something in order to call it steamy, it's about believing in this piece of non-history that we spend time in. Sure I want to make money, but for me this is a lifestyle as well as a trade. I live and breathe in a world that doesn't exist to most people. I strive to surround myself with things from far away lands and times not now. Do any of you see it like this? No matter what your medium is, are you world building, or are you just doing it for money/popularity/because you enjoy it?

Features!

I have two lovely blogs for you kind folks who are reading this to check out! First is Dieselpunk.net, a, you guessed it, blog that focuses on dieselpunk themes! I was recently interviewed by the delightful Jack Rose, and my interview is posted there! Well written and always entertaining, this is one of my favourite reads!

Second, but not less in any measure, is the delightful blog of the most delectible choklit a fellow crafter and amazingly talented artist from the Etsy Steam Team. I am included in a lovely little feature-ette of me and some of my fellow EST members!

Please be sure to check out the Steam Team site, too! There are many talented folk there, all of whom I am flattered to be included along-side! The EST also has a lovely blog, where there are member interviews and all sorts of nifty things!

Remember, many of the things you see here are available for purchase, but once they're gone that's it! Custom orders are a delight, and we are always ready to take them! Most custom orders can be made within a day, and shipped within two!

Happy adventures, all!

What the Forest Taught Me

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 16, 2008, 1:46 PM
King Adelbert has to be one of the finest gentlemen I know! He took us to investigate a strange phenomenon in a place called Evil Forest, hoping that my sister and I might have some answers for him.

I've taken several photographs and will be sharing them here, and you can see for yourself what we saw!

I will remind everyone once again that whoever gets my 5,000th pageview will get a custom-made piece!

Be sure to take a gander in our shoppe! We are currently saving for our trip to Steamcon- help us make this a possibility!
